CPD, appraisal and revalidation
Supporting safe practice in pathology is one of the College’s key priorities. As part of this work, we are committed to delivering exemplary CPD services and resources and supporting members through their appraisal and revalidation.
Continuing professional development (CPD) is an instrumental tool in ensuring good medical practice. It comprises educational and professional activities that develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and personal effectiveness necessary for professional practice. It is grounded in the recognition that professional learning and development is an ongoing process that extends beyond initial training or education.
Revalidation is the process by which all licensed doctors must demonstrate to the General Medical Council (GMC) that they remain up-to-date and fit to practise, and are continuing to meet the requirements set out in the Good Medical Practice Framework. This is an essential process to maintain excellent standards of patient safety and care, both within pathology and healthcare more generally.
The following pages provide detailed information on CPD, appraisal and revalidation, and the support we provide to members in this area.
