Governance and committees

The College is governed by a Trustee Board. Members of the Board, as trustees, have the ultimate legal responsibility for the College. The Trustee Board comprises the President, 4 Vice Presidents, Registrar, Treasurer, the Chairs of the Regional Councils for each of Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland, 2 Co-opted Trustees and 3 Lay Trustees. The Board is chaired by one of the Lay Trustees.

Council, which reports to the Trustee Board, is focused on the practice of pathology as a profession, which includes all the professional, clinical and educational functions of the College. Council members are not trustees of the College. Council is chaired by the President.

Committees

Most of the work of the College is achieved through subcommittees of Council. Council subcommittees fall into two groups, namely committees and Specialty Advisory Committees (SACs). They each meet twice a year.

Committees usually deal with generic matters crossing all pathology specialties, while SACs advise on specialty-specific matters such as cellular pathology and medical microbiology, etc.

These pages contain information about our committees, such as members and minutes. Documents produced by and for these committees, such as specialty-specific or cross-specialty clinical guidance, can be found on our publications pages.
